Microsoft has released the new Exchange Server SE version published. There are no functional changes in the new version compared to Exchange Server 2019 CU15:
- No functions have been added or removed
- No Active Directory schema changes
- No new installation requirements
- No new license key required
The following points change compared to Exchange Server 2019 CU15:
- The license agreement changes (no more purchase version, only subscription)
- The name will be changed to Exchange SE
- The version number is changed
- The existing Exchange 2019 CU15 security updates are integrated (as with a CU)
As Exchange SE initially only converts the license to the subscription model, an Exchange Server 2019 can be upgraded directly to Exchange Server SE via an in-place upgrade (only the Exchange installation, not the operating system). A classic migration is only required for Exchange Server 2016.
Exchange Server SE can initially be installed with the existing Exchange Server 2019 license keys. In the future, however, the special license keys for the subscription version will be required. The new license keys will probably be required with CU1 for Exchange Server SE. As before, Exchange SE can also be used for 180 days without a license key for testing purposes.
The upgrade from Exchange 2019 CU15 can therefore be carried out directly and is not critical, Exchange 2016 must be migrated as before. Corresponding instructions will of course be available here.
